Dynamic range of your camera
Not many Toronto wedding photographers consider the implications of their cameras dynamic range. Your ability to see, with your eyes, contrast ratios is 50,000 to 1. However, your digital SLR is only capable of a 300 to 1 ratio. Choosing the right file format can drastically improve your photos dynamic range.
The most popular digital cameras capture images in a RAW format. The advantage of RAW is that it captures a continuum of stops from under to over exposed in a single file. This is advantageous when you begin editing your files.
Cameras can also capture files in JPG format. The JPG file is compressed and only has 256 levels of intensity. Much less than a file saved in RAW format.
Increasing your exposure range is possible by shooting photos in a High Dynamic Range (HDR). In order to use the HDR files you will need to tone map it to make it useful. HDR produces the best exposure levels and will capture more details than any other format.
